Viper 640 North American Championships

July 24 and 27, 2008

Update

Corinthian Yacht Club will be hosting the 2008 Viper 640 North American Championships in conjunction with the Sperry Top Sider NOOD Regatta during Marblehead Race Week, between July 24th and 27th, 2008.

The Viper 640 is a modern, high performance, 21-foot sports boat. The renaissance of this class began in Marblehead four years ago and has quickly spread down the East coast and across the country. The Viper is now the fastest growing class in its category. The number of boats in the Class Association has more than doubled in the last year and three new fleets have formed in the last 3 months alone at Savannah Yacht Club, Stamford Yacht Club and Indian Harbor Yacht Club.

The regatta organizers are expecting between 25 and 30 Vipers at this year’s Marblehead Race Week, which is up from 18 boats in 2007 and 13 boats in 2006. Along with the reigning Viper North American champion from Marblehead, Rob Gorman, the fleet expects to see top amateur competitors like Rick Zern from Pensacola, John Porter from Savannah (last in Marblehead training for the 1996 Finn Olympic trials) and Tyler Moore from Annapolis.

The Viper class will be participating in Marblehead Race Week with the scores from Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday counting towards the Sperry NOOD regatta, and the scores from Friday, Saturday and Sunday counting towards the North American Championships.
