Award Trophies

The Ives Bowl (aka "The Good Guy Award") – Awarded each year since its creation, the Ives Bowl was presented this year to Rick Hamill.

A Brief History - - - Andy Ives was a member of the Race Committee, joining same back in the 1950s. During his tenure as a Race Committee member, Andy never aspired to be a Race Officer or a Race Committee Chairman – instead, he thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Race Committee comradery and greatly contributed to the good cheer and spirit that was enjoyed by the committee for the many years of his service. With Andy's passing, the Ives Bowl was established in Andy's memory. In every way, Rick Hamill exemplifies the spirit of Andy Ives.

The Duggan Trophy – This year, the trophy was presented to Joe Whipple.

A Brief History - - - Dan Duggan had been a long-time member of the club and was a "cracker-jack" racing sailor in both the Day Sailer and the Rhodes-19 fleets. His boats were always red in hull color and were named "Cherry Bomb". Even when Dan eventually became a member of the CYCRC, he would always strive to perfection; both as a Race Officer and as a racing skipper. When Dan passed away, his wife Peggy (at one time a member of the RC), created the half-model trophy that has been awarded each year to a deserving member. Joe Whipple has also been a long-time member of the club's RC and has served as RO of the Marblehead Racing Association's "North Circle", where racing occurs for the One-Design Rhodes-19s, Town Class and the Viper 640 fleets. Joe Whipple is long overdue in receiving the Duggan Trophy.

The Nye Award – Presented this year to Jim Whipple.

A Brief History - - - The Nye Award was created by Past Commodore James L. Nye, in appreciation for the hard work, the dedication, the total commitment and the devotion-to-duty by a member of the CYC Race Committee. Presented each year by a decision of the Race Committee in coordination with the Nye family, the Nye Award was presented this year to Jim Whipple for his nearly 50 years of dedicated service to the Race Committee and to the Corinthian Yacht Club.

A beautiful clock was presented to John & Pat Dieselman in gratitude for their service as co-chairs of the race committee from 2017-2019.
